Plain language – lenguaje llano or lenguaje claro?, Editorial

In his article on RIUSS and the role of translation in the Spanish of the United States, Professor Marcos-Marin employs the traditional translation of plain language as lenguaje llano. Since our website’s tag-line is “Plain Language / Lenguaje claro – Powered by RIUSS” we wish to explain the disparity. We chose “lenguaje claro” as equivalent to plain language in recognition of the term currently used by most Latin American countries which have adopted a linguistic policy that they refer to as “lenguaje claro.”
